How to Style Culottes

I am a huge fan of culottes, especially in the Spring time!  Styled right they can really dress up a look, not to mention they are beyond comfortable and figure flattering.  Something about them I find so chic, although I have heard some girls mention they don’t feel the same.  I think that may be because they are reminiscent of that awkward ‘gaucho’ look we used to rock over a decade ago.  But today I’m going to share with you some tips on how to wear these pants and look fashion-forward rather than backward!

First and most importantly, you have to buy the right pants!  I recommend a pair made in a woven, crepe fabric.  This material flows great, yet still has that ‘expensive’ look.  Stay away from the knit fabrics!!! Although they are nice and soft, they will bring you back to that gaucho look we all dread!  Also, be sure whatever culottes you purchase that they are high waisted.  This will effectively slim the waist and elongate the leg, who doesn’t want that?!  (Side note: don’t be afraid of color!  Culottes don’t have to be black. I’m loving these blush and white ones for Spring too!)

Second, pair them with the right blouse.  To get that elongated leg look, you have to show off your waist!  Either select a top that you can tuck in, or one that comes in a cropped length.  I went with this off the shoulder one and love how the look came together perfectly!

Lastly, finish the outfit off with a pair of heels!  To give these pants that fashion-forward appearance, they need to be worn with a more dressy shoe.  If you aren’t much of a heels girl, go with a shorter 2-inch heel.  I am OBSESSED with these ones and think they would look great with a pair of black or white culottes.  Short girl tip: wear nude heeled sandals to make the leg look longer; they won’t break up the leg with any horizontal lines 😉

I hope these tips and tricks were helpful.  Let me know if you have any additional styling tips in the comments section below.  Thanks for reading!

XO, Audrey
